Select a Flexible Entry Preclinical Program
St. George’s University welcomes students from any education system around the world. The flexibility in entry requirements and placement at St. George’s University allows students to enter into year 1, year 2, or year 3 of the preclinical program based on academic qualifications and backgrounds as well as allowing them to start their studies in Grenada or The UK.
Upon completion of the preclinical program, students are enrolled in a 4-year MD program where they can choose to study the first year of the program in the UK or Grenada. During year 3 and year 4 of the program, students will have a chance to do clinical rotations in the USA or UK at any of 70+ partner hospitals and health centers.

The 4-year Medical Program at St. George’s University in Grenada is a world-renowned program that offers international students a rigorous and rewarding medical education. The program is taught on the university’s beautiful campus in Grenada, which is located in the Caribbean Sea.
The program is divided into two phases: basic sciences and clinical training. During the basic sciences phase, students learn the fundamentals of medicine, such as anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry. During the clinical training phase, students gain hands-on experience in a variety of medical settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and community health centers.
St. George’s University has a strong track record of placing its graduates in competitive residency programs. In fact, the school’s residency placement rate is consistently above the national average, and in 2023, SGU graduates matched into more than 1,000 US residencies.
School Of Medicine: 4-Year MD Program Entry Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree with a strong science background is necessary.
- English language. If English is not the principal language of the applicant’s country, the applicant must submit acceptable scores on one of the following English Language Assessments. IELTS- 7.0 on each band
- TOEFL- 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based), or 100 (internet-based). The University’s TOEFL code is 2864
- Password-Skills –Scoring is the same as IELTS scoring for direct entry
- C1 Advanced- A score of 186 overall is required for direct entry
- PTE Academic – A score of 85 overall is required for direct entry
Students in the SGU/NY 5-year program will spend 1 year in preclinical, 1 year in basic sciences and may do 6 months of clinical rotations in the UK. Students in the SGU/NU 4-year program will spend 1 year in basic sciences and up to one year in the UK. Clinical rotations may not be done in the UK for the last six months of year four/five.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- IELTS assesses student’s abilities in English listening, reading, writing, and speaking
- Results are reported as band scores on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 9 (highest)
- The overall band score is the average of the four component scores, rounded to the nearest whole or half band. The component scores are weighted equally
- A score of 7 = a good user skill level. The test taker has operational command of the language, though with occasional inaccuracies, inappropriate usage and misunderstandings in some situations. They generally handle complex language well and understand detailed reasoning
